Xamarin for Healthcare: Training Philips VitalHealth Team

At the end of October, we were present at Philips VitalHealth to provide a one-week training focused on gaining experience with Xamarin development. Our Microsoft MVP Developer, Nico Milcoff, spend the week with their eager development team.

Nico traveled a very long distance; from Rosario, Argentina to finally end up in the Veluwe to reach Uddel, where VitalHealth is located. VitalHealth focuses on improving people’s health and enabling better health outcomes through digital innovations and solutions.

A week of Gaining Experience in Xamarin

In five intense back-to-back training days, the VitalHealth developers gained much Xamarin knowledge as well as hands-on experience through practical exercises.

Philips reached out to us through our training partner Global Knowledge. The team wanted to gain more in-depth knowledge of Xamarin and, therefore, they dived into the ‘Xamarin Certified Developer’ training.

Nico was very enthusiastic about the progress he saw, and he very much enjoyed working with the team:

A Deep Dive into Xamarin for the UPS Team

Last week we had the pleasure of getting a team at UPS up and running with Xamarin development. Nico Milcoff flew over to the USA to lead an enthusiastic team of developers at the UPS Innovation Center in New Jersey.

UPS, the multinational package delivery and supply chain management company headquartered in the USA, got in touch with us through IT training broker NewAge Solutions. As they were looking for an intensive Xamarin course for their developers, we sent Nico Milcoff, who is a Microsoft MVP with many years of Xamarin development and training experience.

An intense week of Xamarin training

Held at the UPS Innovation Center in New Jersey, a full classroom of 15 developers took part in the week-long course.

As we’re a Xamarin University-certified training partner, the course followed the Xamarin University curriculum, with a combination of lectures, discussion and hands-on labs that let the group try out what they learned.

Participants had nothing but praise for Nico, who they said delivered the training very clearly while staying engaging and motivating!

At the end of the week, the UPS developers were equipped with the skills to independently start coding cross-platform mobile apps with Xamarin. As summed by one participant:

This is a great course if you want a deep dive into Xamarin’s capabilities, and to learn the proper methodology for building your project.

A partnership of top developers: meet Nico Milcoff

We recently started working with the very talented Xamarin developer Nico Milcoff. He’s not only a Microsoft MVP and lead maintainer of the open source MvvmCross project, he also finds time to lead his own team of developers at DGenix, headquarted in Rosario, Argentina.

We first met Nico just over a year ago when he was a guest speaker at our big MvvmCross & Xamarin HackDay, co-sponsored by the .NET Foundation. The event brought together an elite group of top MvvmCross and Xamarin experts from around the world, Nico among them.

Impressed with his expertise, we kept in close touch. Finally this past July, Nico began working closely with our team to contribute his deep knowledge and skills to several of our ongoing projects, notably the MiniBrew mobile app, which is launching to the public soon. His team at DGenix is also available to lend their skills and experience to projects – we’ve already had the pleasure of working with Mariano Miño and look forward to meeting the others!

We’re excited about our collaboration and hope you’ll join us in welcoming Nico and the DGenix team!

One week to Xamarin mastery at Newegg

XABLU developer Marc Bruins has just got back from a week in sunny California, where he led a Xamarin training course at Newegg headquarters.

A leading retailer for computer hardware in North America, Newegg was interested in getting its developers started with Xamarin. They approached US-based training company Accelebrate, who then got in touch with Marc Bruins to lead an in-house course. As a Microsoft MVP and Xamarin University-certified trainer, Marc regularly teaches and speaks about Xamarin to both beginners and experienced developers.

One week to get developing with Xamarin

After several calls with Newegg, Marc got to work preparing for a five-day training program aimed at taking their developers from Xamarin newbies to independently coding Xamarin apps. Last week, he flew over to Newegg headquarters in Industry, California to deliver the training in person.

18 developers from both back-end and front-end teams attended the training, both on-location and remotely. The course followed the Xamarin University curriculum and included interactive discussions and hands-on labs where participants could quickly apply their new knowledge.

After an intensive week of learning, it was time to hand out the certificates. Congratulations to the new Xamarin developers!

Congratulations to Marc Bruins, newest Microsoft MVP!

The whole Xablu team would like to congratulate our colleague Marc Bruins, who was officially named a Microsoft MVP on September 1st!

With the Xamarin MVP and Microsoft MVP awards being recently merged, Marc not only joins the top Xamarin experts around the world who have made significant contributions to the Xamarin developer community, but also enters the global community of Microsoft MVPs.

Marc’s achievements include speaking at industry events like Techdays NL and developer meetups like the Amsterdam Xamarin Meetup” and the Xamarin, MvvmCross & .NET Meetup. He has also contributed extensively to the open source community, creating multiple libraries and contributing to a number of projects. He is one of the six core members of the open source MvvmCross project and occasionally writes blogs for his website marcbruins.nl
